Printing from a Windows Based Program

Reform has two ways to capture forms from Windows based programs:

1. Setup the application to print to a file instead of a printer as the destination.

2. Using a Windows postscript-printer driver.  Instead of printing to your regular printer, you will print to a postscript printer driver.

Once a form is captured from a Windows Based application it is then detected and processed by Reform.

How Reform works with Postscript Driver:
When a user selects to print in a Windows application, the default printer dialog appears. The user will select to print to the postscript printer instead of the regular printer. At this point the users job is completed. What happens next is the postscript driver will create a file in the spooler directory for Reform to process.

Postscript printer driver installation instructions:

Step 1. Go to Start > Settings > Printers > Add Printer

Step 2. Select local printer

Step 3. Select a postscript printer (recommend: HP LaserJet III Post Script+)

Step 4. Select any available port (example: LPT1)
* Later we will change the port name, so what you select is not important.

Step 5. Take the defaults to finish up driver installation.

Step 6. Click on the newly added postscript printer with your right mouse button and select properties.

Step 7. Select the details tab.

Step 8. Select add port, click other, local port.

Step 9. In the Enter a port name type in the path and output name of the file. This is where you would type in the path and the file name Reform Spooler looks for (example: c:\reform\spooler\output.out).

Important Recommendations
To achieve a consistent text alignments from the postscript file, you may need to keep the font type and size of your document the same throughout in your application.
